At your St Peters chiropractic center, Old Mill Chiropractic, rehabilitation of the lower back pain patient is our strong point! We chiropractors know that chiropractic treatment and exercise are vital for the best clinical outcome: back pain relief.

Combining gentle tai chi with chiropractic for potentially enhanced lower back pain reliefWe strive to remain on top of the most recent chiropractic and spine research and came upon this recent article about tai chi. Folks with lower back pain participated in a randomized trial of tai chi exercise for 10 weeks. These patients’ pain and disability improved (reference):

          • Lower back symptoms by 17% (1.7 points on a 0-10 scale)
          • Pain intensity by 13% (1.3 points on a 0-10 scale)
          • Disability by 2.6 points on a 0-24 scale

Tai chi is considered a safe and effective exercise for lower back pain relief by these participants and researchers.

Now, Old Mill Chiropractic encourages basic exercises for lower back pain relief, but mixing up the routine can be good! We also know tai chi isn’t for all patients. But it could be for you, so you may want to try it after we talk at your next chiropractic visit. If it’s for you, tai chi is a great way to carefully exercise and rehabilitate your spine. It just may augment your pain relief alongside your St Peters chiropractic care.
